2009 Golf Tournament

Coastal Association of Health Underwriters (CAHU) presented a check of $3692 to the Tileston Health Clinic (THC) on September 1st.   Present were Adam Leggett, Ron Sheffield, and Mike Smith of CAHU and Jan Metz, Gordon Boyd, and John Devaney of THC.  THC expresses deep gratitude to everyone involved in making the Golf Tournament a successful event.

About 80 people attended this year's event, and once again Tileston Health Clinic was the recipient of the proceeds.

The Tileston Health Clinic appreciates the
Coastal Association of Health Underwriters for their generosity.  THC has been the beneficiary of past events which have also been held at the
Castle Bay Golf Course.

These events are successful because of the efforts of many people.  In particular,

·      As in 2009, Charlie MacGrooders Restaurant  of Leland provided box lunches for all before the tournament began.  The tasty food gave the golfers the energy needed to play in the hot sun...and it was one of the hottest days of the summer.

·       While on the course Golfers were treated to a variety of cool beverages supplied by RA Jeffreys Distributing Co.  The drinks were much appreciated, especially since temperatures were in the upper 90s.

·        At the end of the tournament, dinner was served, compliments of UnitedHealthcare.  This gave players a time to relax and unwind with good conversations and fellowship.

·         Staff and Volunteers worked together behind the scenes to make sure the players’ needs were met.  Without them, the afternoon would have been difficult.

The Flapjacks and sausages were tasty and filling!

Four members of the
Applebee's Restaurant team

volunteered their time to help us:

The Applebee Team: Tony, Katie, Lindsay and Gabe

Lindsay Sholl, the General Manager, had everything prepared when we arrived.  She gave us guidance on the “how to” of being servers.

Katie Marquez, Tony Morales, and Gabe Hox worked hard behind the scenes in the kitchen…

 -flipping flapjacks
 -preparing the sausages
 -showing how to serve drinks
-directing us on how to get the ice
-giving tips on keeping track of orders

…We extend Special Thanks to them.

A raffle for two tickets to Linda Lavin’s Red Barn Theater was held.  The lucky winner was Otis Carpenter of Wilmington.

The winner of the Silent Auction for a weekend at a Carolina Beach condo, donated by Patricia Fox, was Chris Gillis of Leland.

About $1460 was raised for the clinic.  This money will be used to meet the medical needs of Tileston patients.

Again, we thank you for your support.

     Congratulations to raffle winner
                Otis Carpenter
       and condo weekend winner
                Chris Gillis.

A Music Event...
Took Place
October 11, 2009
at the Beautiful, Historic
St. Paul's Episcopal Church
16 N. 16th Street

The Cape Fear Chamber Players

  • Music filled the air  October 11th.  A performance by the Cape Fear Chamber Players (CFCP) was presented as a benefit concert for the Tileston Health Clinic.   Part of the  Music@St. Paul's Concert Series, the Cape Fear Chamber Players performed in one of Wilmington's best venues for chamber music.  The acoustics were outstanding; the music mesmerized the audience.
    • Beverly Andrews, Concert Master for the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra and founding member of the CFCP, engrossed the audience on a Germunder violin made in 1895.  This particular violin was featured in the Library of Congress in Washington, DC.
    • Kathy Meyer was on a cello made in 1863 in Lyons, France by H.C.Silvestre.  Ms Meyer is the principal cellist of the Wilmington Symphony Orchester and a cofounder of the CFCP.
    • Domonique Launey was at the piano, assisted by her beautiful daughter who diligently turned the pages of the music sheets.  Ms. Launey is an international performer who has performed in the US, Jamaica, France, and Belgium

Although admission to the concert was FREE, the audience generously donated a sum of $840 to the Tileston Health Clinic!

Dr Larry Cook, Director of Music at St Paul's Church, was pleased with the attendance and was delighted to present David Howard, Executive Director at Tileston, the proceeds from the event.

Tileston Health Clinic is grateful to all participants for their TIME, TALENTS, and TREASURES.  We thank the parishioners of St Paul's Church, the Director of Music, the talented musicians for their generosity.

We especially thank the audience who gave so generously.  Their donations will be used to support the Medicine Fund.

To Our Volunteers and Supporters...

With your help, we can continue our services to the underserved of our community.  We appreciate all that you have done, for without your of time, talents, and treasures, the Tileston Health Clinic could not and would not exist!
