The CIE at UNCW Recognizes the Work of the Clinic
The 2014 Coastal Entrepreneur Awards Ceremony held a breakfast honoring the awardees on May 22, 2014 at the Burney Center located on the University of North Carolina Wilmington's campus. This is an annual event co-sponsored by UNCW Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Greater Wilmington Business Journal. The event recognizes local businesses and entrepreneurs for their positive impact on the community. The goal of Coastal Entrepreneur Awards is to spotlight up-and-coming companies, assist in making connections in the community, and showcase our region's entrepreneurial activity. This year Cape Fear Clinic was one of the awardees.

The event recognizes local businesses and entrepreneurs for their positive impact on the community. The goal of Coastal Entrepreneur Awards is to spotlight up-and-coming companies, assist in making connections in the community, and showcase our region's entrepreneurial activity. This year Cape Fear Clinic was one of the awardees. This marks the first year in which non-profit businesses were recognized.
Cape Fear Clinic was recognized for its commitment to the improved healthcare of families in the Cape Fear Region and our ability to adapt to the changing landscape of healthcare. Cape Fear Clinic has developed collaborative partnerships, becoming credentialed to accept third-party insurance, and transitioning from a traditional free clinic to a charitable clinic. While we are adapting to the changes, our mission remains the same – "to provide compassionate and patient-centered health care to low income individuals and families in the Cape Fear region regardless of ability to pay."This is the first year, non-profit organizations were included in the mix of entrepreneurs. Cape Fear Clinic, along with WARM another non-profit organization specializing in making people safe within their homes.
Executive Director John Devaney accepted the award on behalf of the Clinic. In accepting the award, Mr. Devaney noted the distinguished company in which the clinic was included and extended congratulations to each.

John thanked Mr. Roberts and the CIE for recognizing the important role that the Clinic has in serving the underserved in our regional area.
The event was well attended with over 400 guests. Chancellor Gary Miller welcomed guests to the event and congratulated the honored businesses.
Jim Roberts, Executive Director of UNCW Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship served as the Master of Ceremony. Tom Janicki (UNCW); Dallas Romanowski (Cornerstone Advisory Partners); Mike Rhoades (Wilmington Investment Network); Rob Kaiser (Greater Wilmington Business Journal) and Kelly Buffalino (Pink-Trash)served as presenters. First Federal represented by Mark Tyler and Kincaid & Associates represented by Mitzi Kincaid were the presenting sponsors of the event.
